In a public statement, her agent Lionel Larner said, “Glenda Jackson, two-time Academy Award-winning actress, and politician, died peacefully at her home in Blackheath, London this morning after a brief illness with her family at her side.”

From gallivanting with Oliver Reed in ‘Women in Love’ to having a thriving political career with Britain’s leading left wing party Labour, Jackson had quite an eventful life.

In 2015, she announced her retirement from politics and went back to her first love-acting. Jackson received a BAFTA award for her brilliant portrayal of a Miss Marple-ish character Maud – an old lady with Alzheimer’s who tries to investigate the disappearance of her best friend in the 2019 television mystery drama ‘Elizabeth Is Missing’.

Some members of the Labour Party took to Twitter to mourn her demise. Labour MP Tulip Siddiq wrote, “Devastated to hear that my predecessor Glenda Jackson has died. A formidable politician, an amazing actress and a very supportive mentor to me. Hampstead and Kilburn will miss you Glenda.” Another MP Karl Turner tweeted, ““I am so very sorry to hear this news. When I was elected in 2010 my office was opposite Glenda in 1 Parliament Street. Glenda was always very supportive to me and provided great advice on occasion. True socialist.”
