Godhan NYAY Yojana is financially empowering women self-help groups in Chhattisgarh

Raipur. The successful implementation of the Chhattisgarh Government’s ‘Godhan NYAY Yojana’ has yielded fruitful results, providing rural residents with new employment opportunities. This first-of-its-kind scheme is playing a crucial role in empowering rural masses, stock farmers, and women self-help groups, enabling them to achieve self-reliance.

The scheme has proven to be a sustainable source of income for the Gwalin Women Self-Help Group operated in the village Barhi of Balod district. These women have successfully produced an impressive 1,300 quintals of vermicompost at Barhi Gauthan. Notably, they have sold 1,007 quintals of vermicompost worth Rs 5.20 lakh, resulting in the generation of net income worth Rs 47,272 per member. This initiative not only creates employment opportunities within the village but also fosters a sense of self-confidence among women.

Significantly, the Godhan NYAY Yojana goes beyond its primary objective of relieving reliance on harmful chemical fertilizers. It also plays a pivotal role in preserving the fertility of agricultural land. The scheme has become a reliable source of employment for rural masses and women Self-Help Groups. At the Barhi Gauthan, 11 dedicated women from the group are involved in vermicompost production. The steady income generated through this work has significantly elevated their standard of living.

Kevra Bai, an active member of the group, expressed her appreciation for the scheme, stating that previously she had to look for work in nearby villages. Despite putting in considerable effort, she could not earn a substantial income. However, with the initiation of the Godhan NYAY Yojana, she now has a stable source of income through the procurement of cow dung and vermicompost production. This opportunity has brought about a positive change in her life.

Kevra Bai highlighted the remarkable employment and income prospects the vermicompost production has provided for women of the group. Their family’s financial condition has improved, and they wisely utilize their earnings to support their children’s education and manage other household responsibilities.

Notably, Kevra Bai has contributed Rs 35,000 towards the construction of a new house of a fellow member, Sharda Yadav. Similarly, the Godhan NYAY Yojana continues to positively impact the lives of all its beneficiaries. All members of the group heaped praises on the scheme and extended their heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel for creating a pathway towards a prosperous life through this visionary initiative.
