Government will release NSP water after the first week of April

Nalgonda: The state government will release water from the Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) after the first or second week of April to meet the drinking water needs of the erstwhile Nalgonda district. To prevent misuse of drinking water for irrigation, the government will release the water after the completion of paddy harvesting, which is expected to be completed by the first week of April, officials said. As per the current water level in local ponds and water bodies, there should be sufficient drinking water in the district till April 20.

At present the water level of NSP is at 512 feet. As per Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) rules, Telangana is likely to use six cusecs of water. This water will be supplied to Nalgonda district as well as Khammam district for drinking water requirements through Paleru reservoir. Meanwhile, the water level of Udayasamudram reservoir at Nalgonda district headquarters is 0.65 tmcft.
Rural water supply superintendent engineer Venkateshwarlu told TNIE that through the Udayasamudram reservoir, drinking water would be provided to several villages in Nalgonda district, Yadadribhuvanagiri and Suryapet districts by April 20. He said that 26 MLD water is being supplied to various villages every day. erstwhile Nalgonda district through various treatment plants. He said there was enough water available for people’s drinking water needs and urged people not to misuse water and use it only for drinking. “Regular monitoring is being done on the instructions of Nalgonda Collector Harichandana Dasari and measures are being taken to ensure that people do not face any problem of drinking water,” he said.
He said that till now, 466 repairs of 477 borewells have been completed in Nalgonda district. Similarly, 265 out of 322 single-phase motors and 443 out of three-phase motors have been repaired and 2,095 out of 3,020 pipe leakages have been plugged in several villages of the district.
