Hair transplant treatment by fake doctors: The problem of monitoring

Tamil Nadu: Public Health Department officials have stated that there are several practical difficulties in monitoring hair transplant centers across Tamil Nadu.
Officials stated that hair transplant clinics are being run like beauty salons without being registered with the Health and Rural Welfare Department, and that people who have not even completed the tenth grade are being treated.
Officials from the Medical and Rural Welfare Department inspected the “Mr. Ho” hair restoration clinic in Chennai’s Anna Nagar area last Tuesday.
The investigation revealed that two Plus 2 graduates were performing hair transplant procedures under the guise of doctors. Following a complaint to the police department, all three were arrested.
In this situation, Public Health Department officials stated that there are difficulties in regulating treatment centers operating without authorization.
Regarding this, they stated that there is an environment where hair loss is considered a matter of great shame. The sad truth is that all the people who trust these fake doctors and seek treatment are educated graduates.
To open a clinic or hospital, it’s necessary to register with the Department of Health and Rural Welfare. Based on this, they will be granted a license. These medical centers will also be monitored continuously.
Also, hair transplant centers are operating in many places under the guise of beauty salons. Therefore, they are not under our control. Many fake doctors are taking advantage of this and providing treatments. Incorrect treatment can even lead to death.
With this in mind, we are taking steps to bring such unrecognized treatment centers under our purview. Rules will be made soon, he said.
