HC’s big decision on appointment of teachers of B.Ed degree holders
Patna. The High Court has ruled that B.Ed degree holders cannot be considered eligible for appointment as primary school teachers in the state.
A division bench of Chief Justice K Vinod Chandran and Justice Rajeev Roy said candidates with diploma in primary education are eligible for primary school teaching jobs.
“The writ petitions are allowed with the conclusion that the notification dated June 28, 2018 issued by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) is no longer in force, and renders the B.Ed candidates no longer eligible for appointment as primary school teachers May go.
Appointments will be reworked
Hearing petitions related to the appointments of primary teachers in 2021 and 2022, the bench said, “Needless to say that the appointments made will have to be reworked.”
In compliance with SC decision
The Supreme Court had recently in an order said that only holders of Diploma in Elementary Education can be appointed as primary school teachers, noting that B.Ed degree holders are required to have the pedagogical skills to handle children. Is not trained.
The apex court had quashed NCTE’s 2018 notification which had specified B.Ed as the eligibility criteria for primary teachers. The High Court bench said, “Under Article 141 of the Constitution, we are bound by the decision of the Supreme Court and so are the states…”
