Heavy rain warning in Tamil Nadu: Alert issued in several districts including Chennai and Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu: The Meteorological Department issued a warning on Saturday that heavy rains are likely in several districts of Tamil Nadu on Sunday and Monday (April 5th and 6th). According to the Meteorological Department, a low-pressure area extending from Marathwada in Maharashtra to South Tamil Nadu via interior Karnataka is expected, which may increase rainfall activity in the state.

According to a press release, moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected in some areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from Sunday to April 11th. Heavy rains are expected, particularly in Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, and Theni districts on Sunday. Heavy rains are expected at isolated places in Virudhunagar, Madurai, and Sivaganga districts on Monday.

Chennai and Puducherry may experience isolated light rain on Sunday. The Meteorological Department has warned people to take necessary precautions during the rains and avoid unnecessary travel in rivers, streams, or waterlogged areas. The department has appealed to citizens and local authorities to take safety measures during rain and strong winds.

Regarding temperature conditions, the Meteorological Department stated that maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu will be above normal from April 5th to April 7th. Humidity and heat will persist in some districts during this period. The department stated that the weather will be unstable due to temperature and rainfall, so people should adjust their daily routines and be prepared for the weather.

In particular, heavy rains in Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Erode districts require people and farmers to be vigilant. Agricultural operations may be affected, and it is important to monitor the condition of local drainage systems. Authorities have been urged to make necessary preparations due to the possibility of waterlogging in Theni and Virudhunagar districts.

The Meteorological Department also stated that a low-pressure area is slowly moving towards Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, which may increase rainfall activity in various parts of the state. The department has advised citizens to pay attention to the safety of their vehicles and property during the rains and to be cautious while traveling on roads.

Medical and emergency services have also been instructed to be prepared to respond immediately to any unexpected situation during rain and waterlogging. The local administration has also issued a district-level alert and teams have been placed on standby for relief operations.
