Hemant Soren wrote a letter to the President on Manipur violence, said- silence on such vandalism is a terrible crime

Ranchi (IANS). Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has written a letter to the President of India expressing deep anguish over the ongoing violence in Manipur and the video showing barbaric treatment of tribal women. He has said that it would be a terrible crime to keep silence on the heinous vandalism and cruelty with the tribal brothers and sisters.

He urged President Draupadi Murmu to take measures to restore peace and harmony in Manipur and ensure human dignity. He has said in the letter that Manipur needs ointment. As a nation, his help is necessary. The CM has also shared this letter on his Twitter handle. As Chief Minister of Jharkhand and as a citizen of the nation, he has expressed deep anguish over the loss of hundreds of innocent lives, loss of property and public infrastructure in Manipur.

He has written, Manipur has been burning for more than two months. As per reports, more than 40,000 people including children have been displaced in Manipur and are living in temporary camps. Caste violence continues unabated there with tacit support due to some vested interests, which is sad. Manipur is a tribal dominated state, known for its vibrant culture. The state has given the country many outstanding sportspersons who have won the nation many international honors and Olympic medals.

Mentioning the names of players like Kunjurani Devi, Thoiba Singh, Rennedi Singh, Dingko Singh, Mirabai Chanu, Sarita Devi and Mary Kom, Soren said that they too have appealed for restoration of peace.

The Chief Minister has written, the barbaric treatment meted out to tribal women in Manipur two days ago is highly worrying and condemnable. This incident has shaken the entire nation to the core. Completely demolished the right of respect given to the countrymen in the Indian Constitution. A society should never stoop to the extent where people are subjected to that kind of physical, emotional and psychological cruelty. It appears, peace, unity and justice in Manipur is on the verge of extinction.

The Chief Minister has told the President that in this hour of crisis facing Manipur and the country, we look to you as the last source of hope and inspiration who can show light to the people of Manipur in these difficult times. Appeal to show the way forward in this critical situation, ensure justice and take steps to ensure peace and harmony in Manipur.
