Himachal: Education Minister inaugurates apple grading and packing facility

Himachal Pradesh: Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Saturday inaugurated a modern apple grading and packing house at Tutupani in Nawar area. Built at a cost of Rs 6.69 crore, the facility has a capacity to hold 5,600 tonnes of apples during the entire fruit season. The project was funded by the World Bank under the Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Development Scheme. Describing Nawar as a major apple producing area, Thakur said it is important to upgrade infrastructure and technology. “Such infrastructure and technology will help apple farmers get better value for their produce,” he said.

On the occasion, Thakur also inaugurated a school building constructed at a cost of Rs 14.20 lakh at Nalban. He further said the government is committed to providing quality education and projects worth Rs 15 crore are underway for the development of school infrastructure in Nawar area. The minister also participated in a tree plantation drive organised under the ‘Van Mahotsav’ programme and planted a deodar sapling, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation.
