Himanta Biswa Sarma Outlines NDA Seat-Sharing Formula

Assam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on March 17 that the seat-sharing formula within the NDA alliance for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections has been largely finalized. Under this arrangement, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will contest 26 seats and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) will contest 11 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest the remaining seats.
Speaking to reporters following a meeting held in New Delhi ahead of the Assam elections, Sarma noted that the primary subject of discussion was the alliance arrangement between the BJP and its coalition partners.
Sarma said, “The meeting focused on how the alliance between the BJP, BPF, and AGP would be structured; we also discussed the list of BJP candidates.”
He further informed that the party’s Central Parliamentary Board would convene on Wednesday evening at 7 PM to finalize the candidates.
The Chief Minister stated, “The BJP will release its list of candidates either tomorrow night or the following morning.”
Sarma also indicated that the BJP’s list would feature several new faces—particularly women and young leaders—reflecting the party’s effort to broaden its representation.
“Additionally, due to delimitation, some sitting MLAs may not receive tickets,” he remarked, referring to the changes in constituency boundaries resulting from the recently concluded delimitation exercise.
This announcement signals that the ruling alliance has reached the final stages of its preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections in Assam, and the announcement of candidates is expected shortly.
