Washington: An Indian student working part-time at a store in Georgia, US, was beaten to death with a hammer by a homeless man whom he and other employees had been helping for a few days. Police gave this information.
The incident that killed 25-year-old Vivek Saini took place on January 18, local channel WSB-TV reported Sunday. Eyewitnesses say a fire broke out at the Chevron Food Mart at Snapfinger and Cleveland Roads in Lithonia late on January 18. The homeless man had attacked Vivek with a hammer.
Food Mart employees said they allowed Julian Faulkner, 53, a homeless man, inside the store on the evening of Jan. 14, WSB-TV reported.
“He asked us for chips and Coke,” said a Chevron employee. We gave him everything including water. He said he helped the man for two days. “She asked if I could have a blanket, I said we didn’t have one, so I gave her a jacket,” the employee said. “He was roaming in and out of the store and asking for cigarettes, water and other things.”
“He used to sit here all the time and we never asked him to come out, because we knew it was cold in here. On the night of January 16, Saini told Faulkner it was time to leave, WSB-TV reported.
“He told him to leave or he was going to call the police, he had been there for two days,” the employee said. Police said that as Saini left to go home, Faulkner attacked him with a hammer. “He hit her from behind, then continued to hit her about 50 times on the face and head,” the employee said.
According to the incident report, when officers arrived Faulkner was standing over the victim holding a hammer. The police asked him to throw the hammer. The injured Vivek, a recent MBA graduate, was declared dead, WSB-TV reported. Police have arrested Faulkner.
