Maharashtra: After killing her lover over caste issues, a woman ‘marries’ his dead body

Nanded: In a bizarre incident in Maharashtra’s Nanded district, a woman whose boyfriend was allegedly murdered by her family applied sindoor (vermilion) in his name and vowed to spend the rest of her life in his home.
The victim, identified as 20-year-old Saksham Tate, was brutally beaten, stoned, and shot in the head by the woman’s family due to caste differences.
At Tate’s funeral, his girlfriend, Aanchal, applied sindoor (vermilion) to her forehead and vowed to live in his home as his daughter-in-law.
Anchal, who met Tate through her brothers, fell in love with him when he frequently visited their home.
However, the caste difference hindered their love, and Aanchal’s family began pressuring her to break off her three-year relationship with Tate.
Despite numerous threats and hardships, Anchal remained steadfast in her love for Tate.
When Anchal’s family learned that she was planning to marry Tate, things escalated.
On Thursday, Anchal’s father and brothers beat her and shot her to death.
During Tate’s funeral, Anchal arrived at his home, applied turmeric to his body, and applied vermillion to his forehead.
After “marrying” Tate, she decided to live in his home as his wife for the rest of her life. She said, “Even after Saksham’s death, our love won, and my father and brother lost.”
Explaining the reason for her marriage to the corpse, she said, “Even though Tate is dead, their love still lives on.”
Anchal also demanded the death penalty for Tate’s killers.
The woman insisted that she married him because even though Tate is dead, their love is still alive.
Police have registered a case in connection with Tate’s murder and arrested six suspects.
Police said the suspects are being interrogated.
