I like shooting in new places: Imtiaz Ali
Mumbai: Director Imtiaz Ali, known for films like ‘Love Aaj Kal’, ‘Rockstar’, ‘Cocktail’, ‘Tamasha’ and ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ among others, shares his filmmaking journey and his experience of shooting locations.
Imtiaz said that he always likes to shoot in new locations and tries not to repeat any location or shot.
He said, “After the team visits the shooting location, I always visit the place personally. Many times during this time we miss seeing some parts of the location, which get covered after shooting.
The director revealed that there was no fixed location during the shooting of ‘Highway’, whenever they found a good location, the team stopped and shot the scenes.
The 2014 road drama is written and directed by Imtiaz Ali, and stars Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda in the lead roles.
Talking about the same he said, “‘Highway’ was the only film for which we never had a fixed location. We just hit the road with our filming gear and whenever we found good locations, we stopped and shot. Ki. We could do this because we were shooting in our country.
The 52-year-old director said, “While shooting for ‘Tamasha’ in the French island of Corsica, we have a famous scene where Ranbir Kapoor is sitting on a rock. We decided on that particular shot after we reached the location for the shoot, It was effortless. However, at times the local crew also helps us figure out the finer details, which ultimately leads to the marquee shots.
Imtiaz was speaking at a session of the 10th edition of the India International Foreign Tourism Conclave.
Imtiaz’s next film ‘Chamkila’ is in the pipeline.
