Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed concern about deepfake videos on Friday and appealed to journalists to make people aware. PM Modi also shared an anecdote of his own. He told, ‘Recently I saw a video in which I was singing a song. Some people who liked me sent me.’ Let us tell you that PM Modi was addressing the Diwali Milan program at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. PM Modi said that the media should warn people about this crisis.
PM Modi said that deepfakes create unrest in the society. He said that it is necessary to have a disclaimer on any video or picture made through generative AI and it is necessary to state that it has been made by deepfaking. He said that this is one of the major threats facing the Indian system. People need to be cautious about this.
Let us tell you that recently the deepfake video of actress Rashmika Mandhana had gone viral. Now after him, Kajol has also become a victim of deepfake. A fake video of him changing clothes is going viral on social media. Deepfake technology was used in the video to spread obscenity. In the Rashmika Mandanna case, Delhi Police had arrested the accused after registering an FIR. The police had arrested a 19-year-old youth from Bihar.
Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrashekhar said that he has also told social media platforms that they are not being effective in stopping deepfake videos. Let us tell you that after Rashmika Mandanna’s video came out, the Government of India had warned social media companies to remove obscene content. The government had said that according to the IT Rules 2021, it is necessary to remove such content within the stipulated time. Such obscene material should be removed from social media platforms within 36 hours.
Addressing journalists, PM Modi said, I am determined to make a developed India. And these are not just words but reality on the ground. PM Modi said that Chhath Puja is also a national festival now.
