IIT student dies during research
Gujarat. A major accident has happened in Lothal. A student of IIT Delhi has died due to soil collapse at the archaeological site here. She was part of the team that had gone to collect soil at the archaeological site of Lothal for research purposes. Suddenly an accident happened here and she lost her life.
The soil collapsed when the research team was taking soil samples. In the accident, a student of IIT Delhi died and a female professor was injured. The injured female professor was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Lothal, located 80 kilometers from Ahmedabad, is considered to be the center of importance of Harappan culture. A team of four members from IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Delhi had gone to collect samples for research purposes in this Lothal. Two of them had descended into a 10 feet deep pit to take soil samples.
The IIT Delhi student has been identified as 24-year-old Surabhi Verma. 45-year-old female archaeologist Professor Yama Dixit, who was present with them, was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital for treatment through 108 ambulance. Ahmedabad Rural SP Omprakash Jat said that researchers from IIT Delhi and IIT Gandhinagar had gone to the archaeological site of Lothal to collect soil samples for research. Two of them had descended into a 10 feet deep pit to collect samples, when suddenly the soil started sinking and Surabhi Verma and Yama Dixit got trapped in it.
To save both of them, ambulance, fire brigade and local police team immediately reached the spot but Surabhi Verma of IIT Delhi died and Professor Yama Dixit was rescued and she was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
