Illegal Sand Transport in Narayanpet’s Peddavagu Ravine

Maganur: Under the guise of “Our Sand – Our Vehicle”, sand is being illegally transported in a large stream located on the outskirts of Gajaram Doddi and Mandi Palli in Maganur mandal of Narayanapeta District, violating the WALTA Act. Tipper loading is being done in the stream with a Hitachi, contrary to the rules.
According to the Walta Act, sand should be loaded onto tractors by laborers in the stream and moved by tractors, but contrary to the Walta Act, sand is being illegally moved using six trippers using Hitachis and making profits. People are expressing suspicion over the lack of response from the mining and revenue officials who are digging deep holes in the stream using Hitachis.
Farmers in Gajaram Doddi complained that farmers were not getting water to their boreholes for irrigation due to digging deep in the stream. They said that they had informed the Maganur Maktal authorities about this matter, but no one paid any attention to it, so they filed a complaint with the Narayanpet District Collector.
He said that it is outrageous that the mining department officials have not responded to the issue, saying that the permission is for the outskirts of Maktal, but sand is being extracted in the outskirts of Maganur. The locals are demanding that legal action be taken against those who are transporting sand in violation of the rules and the permits be cancelled.
