Illegal shed in Cuncolim Industrial Estate to be demolished tomorrow

Margao: An illegal shed constructed by Global Ispat Limited in Cuncolim Industrial Estate will be demolished on December 14, according to the demolition order issued by Salcete Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Margao.

The Deputy Collector’s office has given permission to demolish the entire illegal shed structure with GI pipes.

In the order, the Deputy Collector, who is also in-charge of the demolition squad, sub-division, Margao, has said that he is satisfied with the request of the Mamlatdar of Salcete, Margao, for sanctioning the demolition squad. Demolition action is to be carried out from 9.30 am on Thursday 14th December.

Margao DYSP has been directed to make necessary arrangements to deploy one PSI, five constables and three lady constables as there is a possibility of law and order problem.

Mamlatdar of Salcete, Margao has been directed to remain present at the site and coordinate with the agencies till the demolition is completed.

“If the demolition is not completed within a day, the demolition will be continued the next day also, the authorities or agencies should coordinate among themselves and complete the demolition,” the order said.

Salcete Deputy Collector and SDO had earlier issued an order to Global Ispat Limited, Cuncolim, directing it to remove a structure and shed in Cuncolim Industrial Estate and restore the land to its original condition.

The development followed a complaint filed by opposition leader Yuri Alemao and his subsequent meeting with the South Goa collector.

Saying that the Cuncolim Industrial Estate is a curse for Cuncolkars, Alemao said he had been fighting against the illegalities, encroachments and pollution in the Cuncolim Industrial Estate since day one.

“I raised this issue in every assembly session and due to my series of meetings with the South Goa Collector and repeated follow-ups, the demolition order was issued. Illegality and pollution will not be tolerated in Cuncolim Industrial Estate,” he warned.
