Imran Khan booked for attack on GHQ
Islamabad (IANS). There was large-scale violence in Pakistan on 9 May. In the progress of the violence probe, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has been named in six cases, including attacks on the General Headquarters (GHQ), military installations and arson at a metro station.
As reported by The News, sources said that three of these cases were registered on May 9 and the other three on May 10 under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). Joint Investigation Team (JIT) is probing all the cases.
The sources further said that the cases were registered at Faisalabad’s Civil Lines, Samanabad, RA Bazar and Rawalpindi’s New Town police stations, Mianwali’s City Police Station and Gujranwala’s Police Station Cantt on behalf of their respective police officers. Former prime minister Khan was not named in any of the 28 cases registered earlier in Rawalpindi.
Sources said the decision to include his name was taken after the statements given by the suspects under investigation and in consultation with legal experts. Cases related to the attack on GHQ and military installations were registered at RA Bazar and New Town police stations.
Violent protesters vandalized the gate of the Pakistan Army’s GHQ in Rawalpindi on 9 May, reports The News. Hours after Imran Khan was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on May 9, PTI supporters also attacked the residence of the Corps Commander.
The house was damaged in this attack. It was originally known as Jinnah House, which was once the residence of Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
