India improves global ranking for mobile speeds amid 5G release

New Delhi (IANS) | Amid the 5G release, India made a significant improvement in its global ranking for average mobile speed in March. This information has been given in a report on Wednesday. According to Ookla, a global leader in network intelligence and connectivity insights, the country jumped two places globally for average mobile speed from 66th in February to 64th in March.

However, for overall broadband speed, India’s global rank dropped three places from 81st in February to 84th in March.

The country also recorded an average mobile download speed of 33.30 Mbps in March this year, which is better than 31.04 Mbps in February 2023.

The overall fixed average download speed in India saw a slight decrease from 50.87 Mbps in February to 50.71 Mbps in March.

According to the March Speedtest Global Index, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) registered the biggest increase in rank and gained 19 places globally, with the UAE retaining its top position for overall global average mobile speeds.

For overall global fixed average speed, Vanuatu recorded the highest increase in rank, gaining 16 places globally with Singapore topping the overall global fixed average speed.

Since the launch of 5G on October 1 last year, the average download speed across India has increased by a whopping 115 per cent.
