Water crisis deepens in Jagdalpur

Jagdalpur. Bastar’s life-giving Indravati river has started drying up with the onset of summer. The flow of Chitrakoot waterfall has reduced and there is not enough water available in the river for the city settlements. There has been a dispute over Indravati river water between Chhattisgarh and Orissa for a long time. Actually, Indravati river is slowly getting diverted and merging into its tributary Jora Nala near Orissa.

Let us tell you that this is the first case of river piracy in the country in which the river is changing its original flow and merging into its tributary drain. Due to which Bastar is not getting its share of water. After the agreement in 2003, on the instructions of the Central Water Commission, a structure was built at the disputed site at a cost of Rs 49 crore to resolve this dispute.

This structure was completed in the year 2016 and it was claimed that the Indravati water dispute has been resolved, but nothing happened. It was decided that Chhattisgarh and Odisha should get 50-50 percent water at the disputed site, but this structure has also failed now.
