Indore: 17 people arrested on suspicion of Bangladeshi citizenship

Madhya Pradesh: BJP workers handed over 17 people to the Malharganj police on Sunday night, suspecting them of being Bangladeshi citizens and living in the city without valid documents. The detained individuals were reportedly identified during a SIR survey and were under surveillance for suspicious activities in the Malharganj area. BJP Laxmibai Mandal President Chandan Singh Bais said these individuals had been under surveillance for a long time due to their unusual behavior. Following the new information, BJP workers detained them and urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation. They also demanded that if their Bangladeshi citizenship is confirmed, legal action, including deportation, be taken.
DCP (Zone 1) Krishna Lalchandani said the police have begun verifying their documents and investigating their addresses in West Bengal. Officials stressed that further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation. If they are found to be living illegally in India, these individuals will face legal action, which could include deportation.
Police stressed that verification is ongoing and all steps are being taken in accordance with the legal process. This case highlights the city administration’s focus on monitoring undocumented residents and ensuring that proper procedures are followed.
