Indore: AI layoffs forced teenagers to steal jewelry.

Madhya Pradesh: A young man, who allegedly lost his graphic design job at an IT company due to AI, stole valuables worth lakhs of rupees from a jewelry shop with the help of his female friend, who was preparing for the NEET exam. Rau police arrested both of them and recovered stolen goods worth Rs 16.17 lakh.

DCP Krishna Lalchandani said that the accused are minors and allegedly told the police that they resorted to crime due to financial difficulties. The male accused claimed that after losing his job about two months ago due to AI, he was unable to afford rent or food. Consequently, the two planned to target Shri Jewellers. They had visited the shop a few weeks earlier to buy a silver ring, during which time they observed that the security was lax and that it would be easy to break into the shop.

On the night of December 21, the accused entered the shop through the roof of a neighboring building. They broke the lock on a door on the roof, entered the building, and reached the jewelry shop on the ground floor through the back entrance.

The complainant, Devendra Soni, told the police that the thieves stole diamond sets, gold jewelry, and silver items and escaped through the same route they had used to enter. CCTV footage showed two masked suspects, one searching for valuables in the safes and display cases, while the other stood guard outside.
