Indore’s water pollution is a system-created problem, claims ‘Waterman’

Madhya Pradesh: Renowned water conservationist Rajendra Singh on Sunday described the deaths of at least six people in Indore due to contaminated drinking water as a “system-created problem” and alleged corruption was at the root of the tragedy.
If such a problem can occur in the country’s cleanest city, it shows how dire the condition of drinking water supply systems in other cities must be.
Municipal Corporation officials said a leak was found in the main drinking water supply pipeline near a police post in the Bhagirathpura area, where a toilet is located. They claimed that this leakage caused the drinking water to become contaminated.
Singh claimed, “Indore’s contaminated drinking water crisis is a system-created problem. To save money, contractors lay drinking water pipelines near drainage lines. Corruption has ruined the entire system. Indore’s crisis is the result of this corrupt system.”
