Infrastructure projects in Srinagar will ease traffic congestion: DC

Srinagar: Srinagar Deputy Commissioner Akshay Labroo said on Saturday that the Government of India is funding several infrastructure projects to improve traffic flow, connectivity, and urban amenities in Srinagar. He said that work on several key projects, including a vehicular underpass, a foot overbridge, and a city ring road, will begin soon.
The DC said that vehicular underpasses near the Mominabad and Nowgam railway stations have received Government of India approval, and final designs have been prepared.
He added that the Government of India has approved the designs and final plans are ready. “There are also plans to build a foot overbridge at the Children’s Hospital in Bemina. Surveys and field inspections have begun. Work will commence very soon,” he said.
The DC also said that these projects will help decongest the city’s traffic and improve connectivity.
He also highlighted the National Clean Air Program (NCAP), implemented by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, as a significant contributor to urban development. “NCAP funds are supporting major projects across the city. In Sonarakol, we have proposed a second road behind the SMHS Hospital to strengthen health infrastructure, including a superspecialty hospital and a government medical college.”

He added, “Work has begun using funds from the Government of India in collaboration with NCAP.”

DC Lehbroo also urged senior citizens over 70 years of age to avail of the Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana (PMVVY). He added, “Eligible citizens will receive a card similar to the Ayushman Bharat Golden Card, which provides medical coverage up to ₹5 lakh. You can visit any BMO office in Srinagar or call the numbers available on our website and social media. The district administration will ensure you receive the benefits.”

He also spoke about the Sanat Nagar project, which was recently completed and opened to vehicular traffic, which was also funded by the Government of India.

The deputy commissioner said work is underway on Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Srinagar Ring Road. He said, “Phase 1 will connect Srinagar and surrounding districts in South Kashmir. Phase 2 is also being implemented. These projects, funded by the Government of India and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), will gradually decongest the city and upgrade its infrastructure.”
