Inspection of proposed alignment for new Borim bridge on Friday

MARGO: In a significant development, inspection of the proposed alignment for the new Borim bridge passing through the Khazan areas of Lutolim has been scheduled for Friday, January 5.

This is in connection with two meetings that the farmers of Lutolim, along with the local MLA, Environment Minister Alexo Sequeira, had with the Public Works Department in Altinho, Panaji.

At those meetings, farmers’ objections to the proposed alignment were conveyed and the objective of the inspection is to assess these concerns at the ground level.

Meetings were also held with the aim of finding a new alignment. In a related matter, the farmers who were called to the office of the Special Land Acquisition Officer (SLAO) of PWD in Panjim on Thursday, January 4, will submit a request seeking more time. PWD National Highways (NH) had already written to the SLAO asking that the objections filed by the Lutolim farmers be rejected and reiterated why the selected alignment was the most suitable one.

However, farmers in Lutolim plan to mount a strong response. Farmers as well as other Lutolim locals have warned that they will not accept the current alignment.
