Instagram will soon allow users to disable read receipts in DMs

San Francisco: Meta-owned Instagram has announced that users will soon be able to turn off read receipts in their direct messages (DMs).
The company is testing a new feature that will give users the option to use read receipts in DMs.

Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Instagram head Adam Mosseri both announced on their broadcast channels that the change is currently in testing.

Mosseri wrote, “We’ve listened to your feedback and started testing a new feature that lets you turn off read receipts in your DMs. Soon, people will be able to choose when they receive their message. If you have read then when will you see others?”

However, he didn’t mention whether that option would come to Messenger, which forces users to use read receipts with no way to disable them.

Meanwhile, Instagram may develop an ‘AI Friends’ feature that will let users create a friend as per their choice.

Users will be able to communicate with the AI to “answer questions, talk about any challenges, brainstorm ideas, and more,” according to screenshots shared on Will be.

The screenshot revealed that users will be able to choose the gender and age of the chatbot. After this, users will be able to customize the ethnicity and personality of their AI. For example, your AI companion might be “reserved,” “enthusiastic,” “creative,” “funny,” “insightful,” or “strong.”
