312 fishermen rescued from Iran reach Chennai

Tamil Nadu: 312 Indian fishermen stranded in Iran due to war tensions were rescued and brought back to Chennai by air on Saturday.
They were welcomed by Union Industry and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and former AIADMK minister T. Jayakumar. Indians stranded in West Asian countries due to war situations are being rescued and brought back home by air on a regular basis.
In this regard, 312 Indian fishermen were rescued from Iran on Saturday and brought back to Chennai by air. 222 of them were from Tamil Nadu. Additionally, 73 fishermen were brought back from Gujarat (73), 9 from Kerala (8) and 8 from other states.
Notably, of the 222 fishermen from Tamil Nadu, 104 are from Kanyakumari, 30 from Thoothukudi, 35 from Tirunelveli, 7 from Nagapattinam, and 4 from Mayiladuthurai. Union Minister for Industry and Commerce Piyush Goyal and former AIADMK minister T. Jayakumar personally welcomed the fishermen who arrived at the Chennai airport.
