Navjot, a resident of Gurdaspur district of Punjab, joined civil services from the profession of doctor. He studied Punjabi medium in village school till 5th class. His father worked in a bank and mother was a housewife. From 6th to 12th class he studied in Gurdaspur city school. Due to low rank in the medical entrance examination PMT (now NEET), he did not get admission in MBBS. Instead of preparing by dropping a year, he decided to do BDS and become a dentist. Due to financial constraints she could not do MDS course. Then he started preparing for UPSC Civil Services Examination by taking advice from some experts.
