Ishan Kishan got less opportunities but there is always pressure on him: Aakash Chopra

New Delhi (IANS). Former India opener Aakash Chopra has said why wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan deserved selection in the 15-man squad for the World Cup. He said that the left-handed batsman has never got many opportunities and when he does, there is pressure on him.

KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant were out of the team this year due to injuries. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan has got a place in India’s squad for the World Cup to be held from October 5 to November 19 on the basis of better performance and playing in all three formats for the team.

After scoring a brilliant double century (210 runs) against Bangladesh in Chittagong last year, Kishan confirmed his place at number five by scoring 82 against Pakistan in the Asia Cup League match in Pallekele, Sri Lanka. It will be interesting to see who among Ishan Kishan and now fit Rahul will become Team India’s first choice for the World Cup.

Aakash Chopra said, “Ishan Kishan does not get many chances, but when he gets, there is pressure on him. He has scored a double century and even after that we do not see him getting many chances, this is true because double After the century, he was not included in the next series. Where Ishan will bat in this team is a different issue, which depends on different circumstances. But, he has understood the pulse of the ODI format.

After the Asia Cup ends on September 17, India will play three ODI matches against Australia at home from September 22-27. After this the team will play practice matches against England and Netherlands on 30 September and 3 October.

India, the 1983 and 2011 champions, will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8. Chopra further explained how the Indian team will create its mindset once it gets into World Cup mode.

He said, “Somewhere in the tournament an environment is created where you start taking care of each other and believing that we will do this, we will win. It builds quietly, I mean, it takes someone to do it.” There is no magic wand, but it happens. So I think when the Indian team starts playing in the World Cup, that environment will be created.”
