Ishan Kishan on India’s 2-wicket win over Australia in the opening T20I

Visakhapatnam (ANI): Y.S. India survived some anxious moments while chasing their target by defeating Australia by 2 wickets in the first match of the five-match T20 series in Chennai. Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan lauded his brilliant partnership with interim captain Suryakumar Yadav at the Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, saying the communication between them was very good.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Kishan said that the team put in a solid performance against the Australians after being set a challenging target.
He also lauded the vital contribution of his teammates in helping them secure the win against the ‘Baggy Greens’, and said that any game against the Australian team is a ‘pressure game’.

Kishan said, “I think it was a solid performance all around, especially from the bowlers because most of them were playing after a long time. The credit for this really goes to everyone. It is always a pressure game when you are playing against Australia.”

The 25-year-old player said that sometimes it is good to be involved in games where “the opponent runs you close”.
Kishan also praised Rinku Singh, who maintained his composure and hit the winning four, saying the way he finished the game showed his ability to remain calm despite extreme pressure.

“Sometimes we need to play games where you know when you are winning but the opponent gets closer to you. We get to learn a lot from these games. Rinku Singh has performed very well in IPL and domestic cricket. Coming to this game, Kishan said, “Making the team win against a world class team like Australia shows his ability. The shots he played were brilliant.”

Talking about the communication between them, the wicketkeeper-batsman said that he was in constant conversation with Suryakumar Yadav, and discussing which bowlers to target.

“We lost two early wickets and a partnership was important. I and Surya are in the same team in the IPL and I know how he plays and what shots he can hit. Communication was very good today. We were talking to everyone about which bowlers we should target and when to rotate the strike.”
After winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, India sent Matthew Short (13) to the pavilion early. However, a 130-run partnership between Josh Inglis (110 from 50 balls, with 11 fours and four sixes) and Steve Smith (52 from 41 balls, with eight fours) led the Australian team to a huge total.
