Ivory smuggling to get rich, 5 arrested
Udaipur. A case of ivory smuggling has come to light in Udaipur, Rajasthan, but the surprising thing is that the smuggler is none other than a CRPF SI. Police have arrested five people including SI in this case. A woman is also included among the accused. The police have also recovered a huge quantity of ivory from the accused. The smugglers had come to Sabina area of Udaipur to sell this consignment, but were caught by the police before they could reach the customer. According to Udaipur Police, Sabina Police team had received information about ivory smuggling from Jaipur Crime Branch. It was told that some people in Udaipur had brought ivory illegally and were trying to sell it. On this information, the police swung into action and with the help of surveillance, traced the accused and arrested him. During interrogation, it was revealed that the arrested accused is a Sub Inspector of CRPF.
A woman is also involved in this smuggling. According to Sabina police, these accused have been arrested near Nela pond. Police have also recovered a consignment of ivory from the accused. The CRPF sub-inspector caught during police interrogation identified himself as Rahul Meena, resident of Alwar. Told that his family is currently living in Delhi. He himself is posted in Kashmir. During police interrogation, he declared himself to be the main leader of the gang. According to the police, other accused arrested along with Rahul Meena include Dausa resident Amrit Singh, Bharatpur resident Arjun Meena and Sanjay and Jaipur resident Rita Shah. The accused said that they have been smuggling animal remains for a long time. Especially from Coimbatore, they pick up ivory and rhinoceros horns and smuggle them to different parts of the country. They make huge profits in this. Accused Rahul Meena told that in Rajasthan, rhino horns are easily sold for Rs 2.5 crore. Similarly, a good amount of money is also available for ivory. The accused told during police interrogation that after appointment in CRPF, he was posted in Sopore, Kashmir.
