Speaking to ANI, Shafi’s younger brother Abdulkareem Mir said, “He was Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and retired from service in 2012. He was a regular at the mosque for ‘Azaan’. However, this morning, the Shafi (Muezzin, who calls fellow Muslims to prayer) suddenly stopped in the middle of his call for Azaan. At first, we thought the microphone had stopped working. However, later, we learned to our complete shock and dismay that he had died of a fatal shooting.”
Meanwhile, the area was cordoned off immediately after the incident.
