‘Jai Hind’ will be used in Haryana schools from August 15

Chandigarh: ‘Good Morning’ will be replaced with ‘Jai Hind’ in all schools across Haryana from this Independence Day, according to a government circular. The move initiated by the Haryana government is aimed at “instilling a deep sense of patriotism and national pride” in students, the Directorate of School Education said in a circular issued on Thursday. The circular said ‘Jai Hind’ was used by Subhash Chandra Bose during India’s freedom struggle and was adopted as a salute by the armed forces after Independence. The Directorate of School Education has sent the circular to all District Education Officers, District Elementary Education Officers, District Block Education Officers, Block Elementary Education Officers, Principals and Headmasters.

According to the circular, ‘Good Morning’ will be replaced with ‘Jai Hind’ in schools to inculcate in the students a “spirit of national unity” and “respect for the rich history” of the country on a daily basis. It said the patriotic greeting ‘Jai Hind’ will encourage students to appreciate the sacrifices made for the country’s freedom. It said ‘Jai Hind’ transcends regional, linguistic and cultural differences and promotes unity among students from diverse backgrounds. The circular said regular use of greetings such as ‘Jai Hind’ will inculcate a sense of discipline and uniformity among students.

It said ‘Jai Hind’ has been implemented as a greeting by the armed forces, paramilitary forces and police forces whose services are considered disciplined. The circular said incorporating the traditional greeting in the daily routine promotes respect for cultural heritage and national traditions. It added “This greeting is both inspirational and motivational, reminding students of their potential to contribute to the progress of the nation. ‘Jai Hind’ is a source of inspiration for young Indians encouraging them to make positive contributions to India’s development.”
