Jaishankar meets President Putin in Moscow ahead of India-Russia summit

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has arrived in Russia. On Tuesday, he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. During the meeting, Jaishankar briefed Putin on preparations for the upcoming annual India-Russia summit.
Sharing information on the social media platform X, Foreign Minister Jaishankar said, “I was honored to meet Russian President Putin in Moscow today. I conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings. I briefed him on preparations for the upcoming annual India-Russia summit. We also discussed regional and global developments. I deeply appreciate his vision and guidance for further advancing our relationship.”
Earlier on Monday, he met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. Jaishankar said after the meeting that he was pleased to meet Lavrov. Discussions focused on our bilateral partnership, including trade and investment, energy, mobility, agriculture, technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
We exchanged views on regional, global, and multilateral issues. We reviewed preparations for the 23rd annual India-Russia summit.
President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit India in December.
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the meeting in a post on the social media platform Instagram on Friday, stating that the ministers of the two countries will discuss upcoming political events as well as key bilateral and international issues.
The two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting concluded on Tuesday. S. Jaishankar arrived in Moscow leading an official delegation for the meeting.
Previously, India’s External Affairs Minister visited Russia from August 19-21, 2025. During this visit, he co-chaired the 26th session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC).
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, during this visit, the External Affairs Minister met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In addition, S. Jaishankar held meetings with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He also interacted with leading scholars and think tanks.
