Jalandhar: 3 deaths, canter driver arrested
Jalandhar: Police has registered a case against the canter driver and arrested him in the case of death of three members of the same family in a road accident yesterday. Bhupinder Singh, a resident of village Shekhupura in Patiala district, told the police that his relative Gurnam Singh was going to attend a wedding in a marriage palace in Kharodi with his wife Varinder Kaur and daughter Seerat by car. When they reached near village Noorpur Jattan, a canter hit them, killing all three. After the incident, the driver fled leaving the canter. Police has registered a case against the accused driver Jugnu resident Jeetpal Khurd district Malerkotla and arrested him.
Smuggler caught with heroin
Phagwara: Under the ongoing campaign against drugs, the police arrested a person on Thursday night and recovered 100 grams of heroin from his possession. Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said that the arrested accused Aladdin was caught at a check-point on Phagwara-Nakodar road when he was coming in a car from Jandiala. SP Bhatti said that the police stopped the car and searched it, after which heroin wrapped in plastic packets was recovered from the dashboard of the car. The police have registered a case against the drug smuggler under the NDPS Act and seized his car.
