Jalandhar: A man was caught with heroin during police patrolling.
Jalandhar: Phagwara police arrested a young man and recovered heroin from him during a routine patrolling operation, bolstering their efforts to curb drug trafficking in the area. According to police officials, the arrest occurred when a patrolling team was conducting area checks near Hadiyabad side and heading towards Bhanoki Road from Nakodar Road. During the patrol, police noticed a young man walking from Bhanoki side. Upon seeing the police party, the man appeared nervous and suddenly tried to flee. During the operation, he allegedly removed a black polythene packet from his pant pocket and threw it into the roadside bushes before fleeing.
Acting quickly on suspicion, the police team, with the help of accompanying staff, apprehended the man. Upon questioning, he identified himself as Hardeep Singh alias Sunny, son of Nirminder Singh, a resident of Gujarati Mohalla, Bansa Wala Bazaar, Phagwara. When questioned about the discarded packet, the accused reportedly admitted it contained heroin and said he had thrown it away to avoid detection. A search of the recovered packet revealed approximately seven grams of heroin. Based on the seizure and the accused’s disclosure, a case has been registered against him under sections 21, 61, and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station City Phagwara. Police officials said further investigations are underway to trace the source of the contraband and determine whether the accused has any links to a larger drug network.
