Jalandhar: Drug accused attacks police while trying to escape

Jalandhar: Several incidents in Jalandhar Rural district have led to the registration of several criminal cases, including the alleged attack on a police team to free an NDPS accused, robbery at gunpoint, and various narcotics seizures under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act. According to police sources, a serious case was registered at Police Station Mehatpur after the police party was allegedly attacked while handling an accused in a narcotics case in village Dharme Diyan Chhanna. The FIR was registered under sections 323, 341, 353, 186, 506, 225 and 332 of the IPC by ASI Amrik Lal on the statement of SI Kashmir Singh, in-charge of Police Post Dharme Diyan Chhanna. This incident is linked to FIR No. 31 dated February 26, 2026, registered under sections 21B and 22/61/85 of the NDPS Act, in which Hans Raj alias Hansa, a resident of the same village, was arrested.

Police alleged that Jasvir Singh alias Viru and Sukhchain Singh alias Sukha, along with Paramjit Kaur, Ajay, and three or four unidentified individuals, surrounded the police team to forcibly free the accused from custody. This group is alleged to have attacked the police personnel with sharp weapons and injured them during the scuffle. Another FIR (No. 32, February 26, 2026) has been registered at Police Station Mehatpur under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in connection with the obstruction and attempt to free the accused. Two of the named accused have been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend the others. Earlier, in the NDPS case against Hans Raj, alias Hansa, police claimed to have recovered 15 grams of heroin, 100 pink-colored narcotic pills, a digital weighing scale, and a motorcycle from him. The accused remains in custody and further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain of the contraband.
In a separate incident in Nakodar, police registered a case under sections 304(2) and 3(5) of the IPC, as well as sections 25, 27, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act, following a complaint of armed robbery. The complainant, Khushat Goyal, alleged that unknown individuals stopped him, brandished a pistol, fired a shot at the ground to intimidate him, and forcibly took away his motorcycle before fleeing. Police have launched an investigation to identify the suspects and verify the sequence of events. Meanwhile, as part of the ongoing anti-drug drive, Phillaur Police Station registered a case against Anmol Kumar alias Anu, a resident of Mohalla Ravidaspura, Phillaur, under sections 21B and 22/61/85 of the NDPS Act. During routine patrolling near the old bus stand in Phillaur, police allegedly recovered 4 grams of heroin from him. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
