Jalandhar: Flood-affected people celebrate Diwali with acts of compassion

Jalandhar: As Diwali approaches, many homes are filled with festive spirit. However, for those still reeling from the devastating floods, celebrations are a distant memory. Many families in flood-affected areas are struggling to rebuild their homes and livelihoods. Amidst the hardships, a ray of hope has emerged from the villages of Ahli Kalan and Ahli Khurd in Sultanpur Lodhi. Displaying true community spirit, the Panchayats of both villages have formed a committee to help those in need after the floods. Its focus is on assisting the poorest families – those who have lost everything in the floods and are unable to restart their lives.

Rashpal Singh, a farmer and active member of Ahli Kalan village, said, “People have helped us a lot and supported us a lot. Now it is our turn to help those who are left with nothing.” These efforts are not limited to just food. Panchayats are actively coordinating the distribution of essential supplies, including clothing, blankets, and medicines. This response is receiving support from far and wide. Youth from Punjab and even other states have brought tractors, diesel, food items, and generous donations. These acts of kindness and community initiatives reflect the true essence of Diwali. In Ahli Kalan and Ahli Khurd, amid loss and adversity, the spirit of giving shines through, reminding everyone that festivals are not just about celebration, but also about compassion.
