Jalandhar: Scooter rider dies in accident, 4 injured
Jalandhar: A man riding a scooter was killed while four others including his wife and three children were injured after being hit by a speeding car driven by an ASI of Punjab Police near Sarhal Mandi Village near Phagwara on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Balwinder Kumar, a resident of Pandori village near Nakodar. The injured have been admitted to the local civil hospital. Police have registered a case and arrested the car driver Surinder Paul. After post-mortem, the body of the deceased has been handed over to the family.
Rs 11 crore for road repair
Phagwara: Municipal Corporation Commissioner Navneet Kaur Bal told this correspondent on Saturday that roads are being repaired at 53 places in Phagwara with a budget of Rs 11 crore. She said that 1,550 places for street lights have been identified and the Municipal Corporation is installing street lights at these places by spending Rs 67 lakh. The force said Rs 3.25 crore is being spent on water supply works in various areas, including Omkar Nagar.
Eight persons booked for illegal mining
PHAGWARA: Shahkot police have booked eight persons for illegal sand mining. The accused have been identified as Kulwinder Singh, Gursewak Singh, Gurjit Singh, residents of Kapurthala, Sukhraj Singh, resident of Mehsampur village and Vikramjit Singh, resident of Baghela village, Dilpreet Singh, resident of Gosian Khan Mohammad village, Ludhiana, Charanjit Singh, resident of Chak Bahmania village and Mangi Bhalwan. Jang Singh, resident of Gosian Khan Mohammad village, complained to the police that the accused were involved in illegal sand mining.
Man booked for duping villager
PHAGWARA: Cyber Crime Police Station Jalandhar Rural has booked a miscreant for duping a villager of Rs 75,000 on the pretext of getting him a VIP registration number. Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Taggar village in Nurmahal, complained to the police that a person duped him of Rs 75,000 over the phone by promising to give him a VIP registration number.
Kidnapping case registered against youth
Phagwara: Police have registered a case against a youth for kidnapping a minor girl. The accused has been identified as Rajiv Kumar alias Kulu of Sangowal village. Raju of the same village complained to the police that the accused kidnapped his minor daughter on November 21 on the pretext of marriage.
Case registered against youth for selling liquor
Phagwara: Police have registered a case against a villager for selling illegal country liquor. The accused has been identified as Santokh Singh of Gaunsuwal village. 20 bottles of liquor and 50 kg lahan were recovered from his possession, but he managed to escape. A case has been registered.
