Joint forces recover arms, explosives in Manipur’s Thoubal district

Imphal: A joint team of central and state forces launched an intelligence-based combing operation at the foothills of the Yerum Ching area under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station in Manipur’s Thoubal district.
The joint team, comprising personnel of the Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, BSF and CRPF, busted a temporary camp and concluded the operation with the recovery of a cache of arms, ammunition, explosives and other warlike stores hidden inside the camp. No arrests were made during the operation, which lasted around three hours.
The recovered items include:
(i) three single bolt-action rifles;
(ii) five 9 mm pistols, each with a magazine;
(iii) one 36 HE hand grenade;
(iv) three INSAS magazines;
(v) one SLR magazine;
(vi) 40 rounds of ammunition of different calibres;
(vii) four detonators;
(viii) two bulletproof vests;
(ix) three helmets;
(x) one sling;
(xi) two tear smoke shells;
(xii) one grenade No. 80 MK I;
(xiii) one anti-riot rubber bullet; and
(xiv) one tear smoke grenade.
The report added that the seized items were later deposited at the concerned police station for further legal proceedings.
