Jr NTR mourns the demise of late actor Vijayakanth
Mumbai: Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founder-leader and actor Vijayakanth died in Chennai at the age of 71 on Thursday after testing positive for COVID-19.
Actor Jr NTR turned to X to pay tribute to late actor Vijayakanth. He wrote, “Saddened to know about the demise of Vijayakanth garu. A true powerhouse in both cinema and politics. May his soul rest in eternal peace. My condolences to his family and friends.”

His body was brought to his residence and will be taken to the DMDK office soon. Earlier in November, Vijayakanth was admitted to MIOT Hospital in Chennai after his health deteriorated. Suffering from cough and throat pain, he remained under the observation of doctors for 14 days.
Vijayakanth, popularly known as ‘Captain’, has a successful career in the Tamil film industry. Before entering politics, he had acted in 154 films.
Holding a position in the Nadigar Sangam (officially known as the South Indian Artists Association (SIAA), Vijayakanth brought about revolutionary changes in the South Indian film industry.
He also served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly twice, representing Virudhachalam and Rishivandiam constituencies.
Meanwhile, Jr NTR will be seen in the pan-India film ‘Devra’, which also stars Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles.
He will also be seen in ‘War 2’ with Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani. ‘War 2’ is all set to release in theaters on the occasion of Independence Day 2025.
