K. Annamalai hints at announcing a new movement

Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president of Tamil Nadu K. Annamalai has said that he will formally announce the launch of a new movement on Friday (June 5). After his statement, the political turmoil in the state has intensified and discussions have started among various political parties.
Of. Annamalai started his career as a police officer in Karnataka. He resigned from his post in 2019 and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2020. After this, after the 2021 assembly elections, he was made the state president of Tamil Nadu BJP. While holding this post, he played an active role in the state politics and continuously made sharp political statements against both DMK and AIADMK, due to which he remained in the news.
He decided to contest the BJP elections alone in the 2022 urban local body elections. The party got about 5 percent votes in that election. After this, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a separate strategic team led by Annamalai got about 18 percent votes, while BJP got 11.3 percent votes. However, despite these efforts, the party could not get any seat in the Lok Sabha.
After this, BJP formed an alliance with AIADMK before the 2026 assembly elections. Meanwhile, Annamalai was removed from the post of Tamil Nadu BJP President and Naina Nagendran was made the new president in his place. Despite the alliance, the election results were not as expected and the alliance stood third in the state. BJP got only one seat in this election and got about 2.8 percent votes.
Amidst these political developments, the discussion also intensified that K. Annamalai can leave the party and form a new political party. However, in the meantime, he met BJP National President, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party general secretary P.L. Met Santosh. It is being told that in this meeting he also gave information about his upcoming decision.
There is a lot of speculation in political circles regarding the announcement of Annamalai’s new movement. Some people are seeing this as a new option in state politics, while some are seeing it as a link to his future role within the BJP. At present, his announcement on Friday is being awaited, which may clarify the future direction in Tamil Nadu politics.
