KADAPA: Chief Minister to open mental health institute in Kadapa on December 23
Cuddapah: Minister Principal YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will inaugurate the Institute of Mental Health in Cuddapah on Saturday. Till now, there was only one such establishment in the state at Visakhapatnam. The Government has taken measures to establish a Mental Health Institute at the facilities of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at Cuddapah to provide quality mental health services to the population of Rayalaseema and Costero districts.
Earlier, patients from the district had to travel to Tirupati, Kurnool, Nellore and Hyderabad to enjoy better medical services. The mental health institute will have a capacity of 100 beds, which will include 30 beds dedicated to eradication of addictions, four beds each for men’s and women’s pavilions, 10 emergency beds and 20 prison pavilion beds. The state government has recruited six medical assistants, one superintendent, one psychologist, three senior medical residents and five postgraduates to work at the institute.
Superintendent Dr R Venkataramoodu said: “There is only one mental health hospital in Visakhapatnam. Previously, patients with mental health problems had to travel approximately 700 kilometers to receive medical services. Now, patients from Rayalaseema and cost districts can avail services in Cuddapah.
RIMS was established with a capacity of 750 beds during the reign of former minister principal YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
He also added the faculties of medicine and odontology to the hospital. Every day it treats 1,500 to 1,800 ambulatory patients and 250 to 300 hospitalized patients. The facilities at RIMS include Mental Health Institute, Multiple Specialties Hospital and Oncological Care Center to provide better and more advanced medical treatment facilities to the public. The multi-specialty block of four floors was constructed over 2.38 lakh square feet at a cost of Rs 125 million and has a capacity of 452 beds.
The hospital will provide services of Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology Medical, Nephrology under superspecialized medical and surgery.
The Superspeciality Block comprises 11 units of high definition intensive care units with a capacity of 152 beds, a laboratory center suitable for all superspecialties, a radiology department, a department of sterility services (CSSD), a pharmacy centre, 12 sophisticated modular chiropractors, an advanced catheterization laboratory, a blood bank and centers for computerized tomography and magnetic resonance.
