Karimnagar: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar releases water from Lower Manair Dam
Karimnagar: Water from Lower Manair Dam has been diverted into Kakatiya Canal to provide water to crops in the middle of Yasangi season. British Columbia’s Transport and Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar released this information to the press on Sunday. The minister freed water from the canal by performing puja along with Manandur MLA Kavvampalli Satyanarayana, Collector Pamela Satpathy and others. Speaking on the occasion, Prabhakar ensured continuous supply of water to rice plants and crops under irrigation (ID) and advised farmers to give maximum priority to the cultivation of ID crops. Describing Congress as a farmer-friendly party, he said the country will prosper only when farmers are prosperous: 19.646 TMC water is available in LMD against the storage capacity of 24 TMC. Meanwhile, 22 TMC of water was available against the storage capacity of 27 TMC at Mid Manair embankment. It will meet the drinking water needs as well as continuously supply water to agriculture and crops. Crops sown in 3,98 lakh acres from SRSP 146 km to Suryapet 248 km and 346 km were watered, farmers using the facilities were informed and fed. AL ordered officials to prepare a plan to save farmers from inconvenience, advising them to plant commercial crops and identify them based on water availability. It also warned that serious action would be taken against persons involved in the sale of spurious seeds and fertilizers. Referring to the six guarantees of Congress, he said that even people who do not have ration cards can request for government programs and said there is no way to reject the request. Till now, more than 6 million women travel in RTC buses with zero tickets, it was reported that additional buses will be deployed to meet the increasing demand of passengers. For this, the government has decided to buy 1,050 new buses. He said that 500 buses will be handed over to Hyderabad, the remaining 500 buses will be for the districts.
