Arunachal: Workshop on Oil Palm Development Under CHF Underway

PASIGHAT: A three-day national workshop on oil palm development under NMEO-OP in the Northeast is underway at College of Horticulture and Forestry (CHF), Pasighat, in East Siang district.
The workshop is focusing on strategic approaches for rapid expansion of oil palm cultivation in the Northeastern hill regions and formulating a roadmap for achieving self-reliance in vegetable oil production under the central government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) mission.
MLA Ninong Ering highlighted the economic potential of oil palm cultivation and its employment prospects. He said the central government is taking up projects to increase edible oil production in the country.
Agricultural scientists also highlighted the importance of oil palm cultivation for enhancing farmers’ income. They further underlined the need for scientific interventions and coordinated efforts for sustainable oil palm development.
Representatives from Northeastern states presented reports of oil palm cultivation in their states and explained the opportunities and challenges in cultivation and processing.
The workshop will conclude on Thursday with plenary discussions and exposure visits to the oil palm processing units.
