Karnataka government: Along with taxis, Uber, Ola will also have to implement the fare
Bengaluru: City taxis and taxis plying through app-based aggregators like Uber and Ola will now have to follow the new fare structure announced by the Karnataka Transport Department.
With this new order issued by the department on Saturday, the fare for app-based cab aggregators as well as city taxis will be uniform and the revised fare will be applicable across the state with immediate effect. Earlier, the fares for both categories of taxis were different.
As per the new fare structure, cabs have been classified into three categories based on the cost of the vehicle.
For vehicles whose purchase cost is Rs 10 lakh or less, the minimum fare has been fixed at Rs 100 for up to four km and Rs 24 for each additional km. For those costing between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, the minimum fare is Rs 115, and the per km cost is Rs 28. For those costing above Rs 15 lakh, the minimum fare has been set at Rs 130 and Rs 32 is charged for each additional kilometre.
The order clearly states that no cab aggregators will be allowed to charge additional fees. As far as waiting charges are concerned, the first five minutes are free, after which passengers will be charged Re 1 for every minute.
Additionally, app-based aggregators can also charge five percent GST as well as toll charges from passengers, the new order said.
It said operators can charge an additional 10 percent for cabs booked between 12 midnight and 6 am.
