Karnataka government on Bengaluru Stampede, see what it has to say

Bengaluru: Karnataka government’s big statement on the stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Karnataka government has directly blamed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the hearing today.

The stampede outside the stadium left 11 people dead. The government told the High Court that no permission was taken for the event and the organizers had invited “the entire world” through social media. Permission was granted an hour ago.

The plea came during the re-hearing of the petition filed by four people, including RCB’s marketing head Nikhil Sosale, challenging the legality of the arrests in connection with the incident. A bench headed by Justice S.R. Krishna Kumar heard the case.

Attorney General Shashi Kiran Shetty, appearing for the state, told the court that there were many complaints against RCB and its partners. He said that an hour before the start of the match on June 3, the organisers had given a letter to the administration. In which it was written that a victory parade would be organized. This means that they did not seek permission, they only informed about their plans.

The Karnataka government has blamed the BCCI for the incident, arguing that an agreement was made between RCB and the BCCI regarding security, gate and ticket management for the event. According to which the franchise and the cricket board had the sole responsibility of crowd management.

It is worth noting that after Royal Challengers Bangalore won the IPL 2025 final on June 3, preparations were made for the victory celebration in Bengaluru. Initially, a victory parade was planned, but later the Bengaluru police did not allow the victory parade due to traffic jams.

After the victory parade, there was a felicitation ceremony at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. As permission was not given for the victory parade, a crowd gathered outside the stadium. A scuffle broke out between the fans to see their favorite team. As a result, 11 people lost their lives and many were injured.
