Kerala Cooperative sector: Meeting proceedings to go digital to prevent fraud

Thiruvananthapuram. Thiruvananthapuram: Major amendments are being made in the cooperative sector to prevent fraudulent activities in co-operative banks and enterprises. One of the key proposals is to make it mandatory to record the decisions (minutes) of the governing body in both physical and digital format, so that no changes can be made to them later.

All members will have to sign the minutes, and any irregularities found during the audit can be reported by the auditor to the police or vigilance authorities. Amendments have been drafted to incorporate these provisions in the law. There have been several instances of decisions being added to the minutes without the knowledge of several governing body members, as seen in Karuvannur.
