Kerala News: SUV catches fire in Angamaly, passengers escape safely
Kochi: An SUV caught fire near Angamaly in the wee hours of Sunday but there were no casualties as passengers immediately came out of the vehicle after seeing smoke coming out from the front. An official from the Angamaly fire station said the incident occurred around 5.40 am. “As soon as we received the information about the fire, we rushed to the spot and controlled the fire,” the official said. He said the occupants of the SUV were on their way to a hospital when the incident occurred.
No casualties were reported as passengers immediately came out of the vehicle after seeing smoke coming out and ran to safety, the official said. “Only the front portion of the SUV was damaged in the fire. The fire did not enter the cabin of the vehicle,” he said. The fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit in the engine area, the official said. A man was burnt to death after a car caught fire near Konnad beach area in Kozhikode district on Friday. The 50-year-old man driving the car could not be rescued by locals when the car caught fire, reportedly because he was unable to unfasten his seat belt.
