Kerala: Youth arrested for duping people of lakhs by promising kidney

Kerala: A youth has been arrested for allegedly duping people of lakhs of rupees by promising to arrange a kidney. Aralam SI K. Shuhaib arrested V.M. Noufal (32) from Keezhpalli Veerapada Vengassery House. The case is based on a complaint from Shanif (30) of Ayyappuzha Fatima Manzil. The complaint states that Shanif was duped of Rs. 6 lakh between December 8, 2024, and October 18, 2024, by promising to arrange a donor for his kidney transplant. The fraudsters include two other individuals. The gang defrauded C. Nabil Ahmed of Ananthavoor, Tirur, Malappuram of Rs. 5 lakh, M.V. Sulaiman of Chamaravattom, Perinthallur, Malappuram of Rs. 5 lakh, and M.K. Ibrahim of Rs. 1.75 lakh and Shukkur Madakara of Rs. 5 lakh were defrauded by the gang. Following the news of Naufal’s arrest, several people contacted the Aralam police. It is reported that the gang has committed similar frauds in various parts of the state.
The main accused was arrested by the Aralam police after receiving a complaint at the Pariyaram police station that Mottammal Shafeeq was defrauded of ₹5.5 lakh (approximately $500,000) in a banana field on the 7th of Cheruthazham by promising to donate a kidney. There are indications that he was also involved in the fraud by contacting officials of the Medical Assistance Committee.
He made calls and sent WhatsApp messages to people, convincing them that he had a kidney donor. Police have seized his mobile phone. Senior CPO Manoj, CPO Soumya Kurien, and Sajith were also involved in the gang. The accused was remanded by the Mattannur court.
