Khanna: Two people arrested for extorting money from locals by posing as police officers.

Ludhiana: Khanna police have arrested two men for allegedly posing as police officers and robbing people of cash and gold jewelry, officials said. They added that the police recovered Rs 11,500 and a pair of gold earrings from the accused. Khanna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Darpan Ahluwalia, in a press statement issued here on Saturday, identified the accused as Pargat Singh and Ramanpreet Singh alias Bawa, both residents of Naulari village in Samrala. He said the action was taken based on a complaint filed by a man named Yadwinder Singh on January 22.
In his complaint, Singh stated that he was with his friend on Khatu Dham Temple Road in Khanna when a white Maruti Suzuki Ertiga car stopped near them. He alleged that two men got out of the car and identified themselves as police officers posted with the CIA staff. “They snatched our mobile phones and took our car keys. Then, they forced us into their car, saying they had to take us to the police station. The accused assured us that they would let us go if we gave them some money. They made me transfer Rs 6,700 from my account and snatched Rs 4,800 from my pocket. My friend was wearing gold earrings at the time, which were also snatched,” he said in the complaint. Police said the accused are being interrogated to ascertain if they had targeted anyone else previously.
